ACA is one Associate, who has gained a vast amount of Leadership experience, whilst also developing himself as a qualified Educator and Trainer.
With 30 years in Policing and retiring as a Superintendent, Mark Thornton was very operationally active. Whilist retaining his Leadership role, heading up departments often comprising of hundreds of staff members.
His final posting was Head of Learning and Development, but he also led a Collaborative Unit of Specialist Operational Staff formed of people from both the Cleveland and Durham Forces. This required a leader who knitted together diverse methods of working, whilst blending two distinct cultures. The staffing establishment was in the region of 260 people and the budget Mark held was into the multi-millions.
He was the Operational Commander for many high-profile events, including Royal and Diplomatic visits; Premier League Football Matches, Public Protests, Disastrous Events including Flooding and Chemical Fires. Whilst duty officer he also led on many incidents where communities and people’s lives have been in danger and subject to real threat, harm and risk.
During his Leadership roles Mark was involved in:
· Staff Discipline and Welfare
· Employment Tribunals
· Hosting Television film crews to work alongside staff
· Running Senior Leadership Teams
· Post Incident Manager following various referrals to the IPCC (Now IOPC)
· Was responsible for Tactical Training Centre complete with Firearms range
